The Ohio State University once again
sent two representatives in monthly to
inform the fourth and fifth graders on
proper nutrition. A year ago they
focused their efforts on the fourth
grade. The program will continue this
coming school year. Proper nutrition is
vital for a healthy life style and The Ohio
State University’s assistance in the
education is greatly appreciated.
The Middle School was fortunate to
have two guest speakers that addressed
the entire student body. Mr. Jesse
McClain, a former teacher and
administrator from the Boardman Local
Schools now travels around speaking
about the Holocaust and bullying. Mr.
McClain brought a great message to
students and showed a number of
World War II artifacts. He also provided
the school and community a Steven
Spielberg documentary on William Vegh
(Bill) life. William Vegh was a Holocaust
survivor. Bill was born November 21,
1928 in Apsa, Czechoslovakia and was
one of 6 children. Bill survived Auschwitz
along with a brother and father who he
did not know until many years after the
war. Bill settled in Youngstown after
the war and passed away in 2009. The
display was located in the school library
for two weeks for public and student
viewing. We are fortunate that Mr.
McClain will be coming to speak again
and will bring another survivors story for
viewing.
Mr. David Kohout was the other speaker
from Talk is Cheap. He spoke about
Standing In The Presence Of Greatness
(SITPOG). The young people are the
future of the community and world and
he wants to build strong boys and girls
who will impact the world in a positive
way no matter what their background.
The students want Mr. Kohout to return
next year.
