operations levy, we still have a very
tight budget. With our enrollment
declining over the last five years, we
continue to receive less money from the
state of Ohio. We are trying to promote
our school and community and we hope
we can all work together for this same
goal.
Newton Falls Schools Wins Awards
During the 2015/2016 school
year, our staff continued to work hard at
educating our students. Our efforts did
not go unnoticed. The middle school
was awarded a 2015 Momentum Award
from the Ohio Department of Education.
The award recognizes the schools in the
state of Ohio that have earned all A’s on
the state report card in the area of
value-added. Value added analysis
helps educators measure the impact
schools and teachers have on students’
academic progress rates from year to
year. Our high school was honored as a
Bronze Medal High School in regards to
college and career readiness. This
distinguished award was granted by the
U.S. New and World Report.
We are very proud of our schools!
We will work hard to continue to
improve our AIR scores and the scores
on the State Report Card. We have a
dedicated staff, administration, and
Board of Education who want nothing
but the best for our students and
community.
New Early Release Schedule
The Ohio Department of Education
recently updated its list of schools that
need extra support to improve
performance. The Newton Falls
Exempted Village School District has
been designated as a “Support School”
by the Ohio Department of Education.
Newton Falls Elementary, Middle and
Junior High Schools have been assigned
a Watch Designation. Watch schools
have low achieving student subgroups
and must create a school improvement
plan in the CCIP (Comprehensive
Continuous Improvement Plan). This
plan must address the means by which
the school will increase subgroup
achievement and the funding for the
subgroup initiatives.
Therefore, during the 2016/2017 school
year, Newton Falls Exempted Village
schools will not only be working with a
state support team, but we will also
incorporate a two hour early release on
the first and third Thursday of every
month beginning in September. This
will enable our staff to work on RTI
(Response to Intervention) strategies or
ways to re-teach students who are
struggling with concepts. It will give our
teachers time to meet with the state
support team, review student data to
help with instruction, and to better align
curriculum for instruction.
On the first and third Thursday of
every month beginning in September,
the high school and junior high will have
an early release from school at
12:28p.m. The elementary school will
have an early release at 1:15p.m. and
the middle school will have an early
release at 1:25 p.m.
