brief listing of assignments and
homework. Teachers can be reached
via email or by calling the school office.
Each student will receive a student
handbook and this will be an important
tool for you and your child to improve
communications with the school.
Besides working on Ohio’s New
Learning Standards, students will be
learning the
7 Habits of Happy Kids
,
as written by Sean Covey. This book,
aligned to our building’s mission
statement really teaches students
important life skills. The Elementary will
also be implementing the building-wide
PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions
and Supports) framework. Additional
details about this program will be
available at the District-wide Open
House on Monday, August 22, 2016.
Students will also be working with
textbooks, computers, online
technologies, as well as creating and
tracking individual and class goals. In
addition, a district calendar was sent
home with all students on the last day
of school last year. Please make a note
of the (2) 2 hour early dismissal days
each month.
Please make it a goal this year to
volunteer at the Elementary School. We
need to increase our volunteer
participation in our ABC parent booster
group. If you’re interested in
volunteering, please call the school and
we can provide you with information on
obtaining your BCI check. We really
need volunteers to come to the school
each week and be involved in the
reading process with our students.

As the air turns cooler and the fall
sports are out practicing, we begin to
prepare for a new school year. Before
we do, let’s take a quick moment to look
back on the 2015-2016 school year.
The Middle School was awarded a
2015 Momentum Award from the Ohio
Department of Education. The award
recognizes the schools that have earned
all A’s on the State Report Card in the
area of Value-Added.
Our students earned a number of
individual recognition. The spelling bee
returned and Zoe McElrath won the
school spelling bee and tied for third in
the county spelling bee. David Duffy
and Mac Haidet advanced in the Math
24 Tournament to the semi-finals.
Jacob Mays a fifth grader ran the Flying
Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. Brian
Mekker another 5
th
grader earned a gold
and copper medal in Taekwondo. Pipe
Johannsmeier a fourth grader competed
in the Pepsi State Bowling Tournament.
