The Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) replaces the KMS Server in regards to keep track and installing product keys and activation the workstations on the network. This post will discus in detail on how to add a workstation from the network and how to activate the Microsoft license from the VAMT program.
Procedure for Adding Computer and Activating the License
- Connect and login to TPAW-01
- Click the start menu and select Volume Activation Management Tool
Note: if you need to add product keys, select product keys from the menu on the left and you can add new product keys using the wizard. - Click on windows
- Click on the discover productions on the menu on the right.
Note: This will go out on the network and find all windows based machines on the network within the given domain. - Right click on a computer
- Left click update license station > current credentials
Note: This will scan the computer and provide you with the current activation status. - To install key: Right click on the computer again.
- Left Click Install product key
- Select the appropriate activation product key, the utility will suggest the best one to use based on the version of Windows that is installed.
- Repeat step #6 above to recheck credentials.
- The listing for the computer should have: licensed status genuine
