Secondary (Backup) DNS Servers

1055-1

We now have Secondary DNS Servers on “ALL” of the domain controllers within the new TIGERDEN active directory structure.   I began to research how to install this and set this up; however, this was either done automatically when installing the Active Directory OR when I turned on this setting on the main server.

On TPAW-01, I went into the DNS utility and right clicked on the domain and selected properties.   The window above popped up, and I checked the “Allow zone transfers” and allowed the “To any server” to be checked.

When I did this, I noticed that when I went to TPAW-02, the DNS was already configured to point to tigerden.org.   So, I then had no need to do anymore configurations.

Later on when we added TPAW-03, and DNS was installed when we added it to the Active Directory, it automatically had DNS and was pointing to tigerden.org.

This was my goal, having replication among all of the servers for redundancy, so I am not sure if by making this configuration I described here made that possible, or again, if it was just part of adding the servers to the active directory.
