Configuring the District Newsletter on the Website

This year we made the district newsletter electronic. In order to do this, we used a flash program called FlashPageFlip.com that will take .jpg files and create an on-line book from the images. This program can also use .swf files if you want as well; however, it will only use .jpg or .swf files. I used the free version of the program to see how it will work out. The paid version of this program would provide additional capabilities such as print and zooming.

To configure the on-line newsletter, I performed the following procedure:

  1. Printed the word document containing the newsletter to a .pdf file.
  2. Converted each page of the document to a .jpg image file using a program called PDFtoJPG.
  3. After renaming each file to something like nl1.jpg, nl2.jpg… I then copied all of the .jpg files to the /nl/pages directory.
  4. I then edited the file in the /nl/xml/Pages.xml to reference each one of the newsletter pages.
  5. Tested and all was fine.
  6. To change this in the future, we just need to add the new images and adjust the /nl/xml/Pages.xml file as needed.
