Setting Up Kiosk Mode on Chromebooks

hqdefault

This post will discuss how to setup chromebooks in kiosk mode which can be used for the state testing or other chrome applications.

All of the settings are done through the GAFE Admin.

  1. Login to GAFE
  2. Go to Device Management
  3. Click on Chrome Management
  4. Click Device Settings
  5. Select the Cart under Devices on the left.
  6. Scroll down to Kiosk
  7. Under Kiosk apps – add the app you want to push out.
  8. When ready to push out, select the app from the “auto-launch” section (the app should show up in the drop down)
  9. Click Save

For the application to show up on chromebooks:

The devices need to be completely powered off, wait a few minutes, and turn them back up.   The device should launch the application when turned on.   If it doesn’t take the first time, keep trying.   It has to sync with Google to get the application.

To reverse the process:

Go back into the Device Settings (step 1 – 6 above), and under step 7, select none.  Make sure you click save.   Again, restarting the devices will take them out of “kiosk” mode.
