Installing Reflections on Windows 10 Computer

reflection

Reflection software is used by our fiscal department for processing financial records on NEOMIN.   This software is terminal emulation software and these directions are what is needed in order to install this software on a Windows 10 computer.

Turn on Telnet in Windows 10

One of the things you have to do for Reflections to work properly is to turn on the Telnet Client in Windows 10.   By default this is turned off.   To turn it on:

  1. Open Control Panel
  2. Open Programs and Features
  3. Select Windows Features
  4. Check Telnet Client
  5. Click Save
  6. It will then install the client
  7. You may have to reboot the computer after the installation.

Install the Reflections Software and Update Patch

  1. You can download the software from NEOMIN (will need a username and password – The treasurer has this), or you can get it from the installs folder on TPAW-01.   It is in a folder called reflections \ reflections 14.  The first file you want to install is Reflection 14 wSP5 w32.exe.
  2. Next you want to install the patch.   You can obtain it in the same manner, but the name of the file is R14_SP7_x32.exe.

Configure the Software

You can then open the software and connect to the NEOMIN node that the user uses on a daily basis.   There are a couple of settings that you will want to check and make sure are set for the software to work properly.   Once you have these settings made, you can save the settings into the documents folder or on the desktop.   I saved the settings file into the documents folder and pinned a shortcut to the taskbar.   Here is a quick procedure to help you with the configuration:

  1. Check the transfer and make sure it is set to OpenVMS.
  2. Check the backspace setting under terminal and make sure it is set to delete instead of backspace.
  3. Check and make sure you can connect to NEOMIN (this is where I discovered we needed to turn on Telnet client, I was getting an error message).
  4. Ask the use if they want you to change the screen colors since the default is a white background with black text.
  5. Save the settings file.
  6. Have the user test the file transfer and connection.
