Adding a Printer to a Print Server

With the new 2016 server and network, we decided to bring back the print servers so that we can manage and audit printing remotely.   We lost this ability on the previous network due to the lack of processing power in the computers.   Now, we will have the ability to have multiple print servers to handle the load.

These directions are how to add a printer to the print server(s):

  1. Open the print manager on the server.
  2. Go to the printers section.
  3. Right click on printers, and left click on add printer.
  4. Select TCP/IP printer.
  5. Add the driver if needed
  6. Enter the share information
    1. Name (include model)
    2. Enter the share name (same as name)
    3. Enter the location of the printer
  7. Right Click on the printer, and left click list in directory.

After you add a printer to the print server, you can then deploy the printer via GPO in active direction.   Use the following link for those directions:
