How to Prevent Static Electricity

The following are some measures that you can take to avoid damaging internal computer components with static electricity:
  • Use an ESD wrist strap or work on an anti-static mat
  • Ground the static electricity before touching any of the internal components
  • Touch the metal frame while it is plugged into the outlet
  • Always try to touch the non-circuitry areas of the internal components
  • Increase humidity in your work area; dry conditions contribute to static electricity
  • Change materials; your clothing and shoes may be causing static electricity build-up
  • Avoid synthetic materials if possible when working on a computer
