Traits of a great technician Lab - Hand out - 10 points

Directions: Follow the directions for each question below. Type in your answer for each question on the space that is provided. When you are finished, print this page out and turn it in.   2. You are working on a job, and the client asks you if you could take a look at something while you are there, however you have to be at another job in 10 minutes. What do you do?(1 pt)
  3. Based on this semester of classes, create a rough schedule including days and times, when you will work on homework for each class that you have. (1 pt)

  4. You are working on a job and the client is having a bad day. They have a very bad mood, and they are talking to you as if you are worth less than a piece of paper sitting on the desk. Nothing you are doing is satisfying the client, and they are threatening to complain to your boss. You try everything that you can to solve the problem on hand; however you are just not in the frame of mind to get the problem solved. You have to leave to go to another appointment, how would you handle the situation? (1 pt)

  5. Connect to the Internet, and find one technology related item that is new to you. List what the item is, a brief explanation, and include the link to the web site. This can be anything related to technology.(1 pt)

  6. Your boss assigns you a task. You need to go and replace a network card on a client’s machine across town. You have done this for what seems to be a million times. You start to replace the network card, but the computer must have some other problem.   You cannot seem to figure out how to fix it. What do you do?(1 pt)

  7. You have been working as a technician for a couple of years and have collected several CD’s that contain different programs and drivers that you use all of the time. It has gotten to the point where it is hard to keep track of what is on each disk. Describe a way you could organize your collection.(1 pt)

  8. You have reviewed and know all of the school's rules relating to playing games on the computers at school as well as downloading music off the Internet. You are a technical assistant for the school district. You have noticed that one of your friends is downloading games off the Internet. What do you do?(1 pt)

  9. This morning when you got up to get ready for school; you went through a process before you left your house. This process dictated what the outcome was for you being in class today. Thinking back to what you did to get ready for school this morning, and list the steps that you went through.(1 pt)

  10. Your boss explains to you that a client wants to upgrade their computer network. He knows roughly how much they are looking to spend, however he is not sure about what the office actually does so he cannot create the right specifications for the workstations and the server. He wants you to go over to the client, and ask them a few questions about their business to help determine what type of computers they need. List two important questions you could ask the client.(1 pt)
