Trait 10: Possesses high quality people and communication skills (both verbal and written)

It is important that you learn how to communicate with your clients, your bosses, and even your fellow employees in a professional manner, while talking to them directly, on the phone, writing them memos or letters, or even in e-mail.

It has been my experience that most computer technicians do not posses this ability, because they have never been formally trained on how to actually do it.

A few things to keep in mind when communicating with someone on a professional level:

  1. Your communications represent you and your company, and if it is in writing, it is as if it was written in stone.
  2. People will remember you from your last communication with them. So be courteous and professional and leave informal communications for friends and family.
  3. Keep in mind that most people you communicate with have no clue what you are talking about. You are the computer technician not them, so be sure to explain things in laymen’s terms.
