It is very rare that as a technician you will receive one task at a time. Depending on the size of the organization that you work for, there may be morning team meetings to discuss tasks for the day or week.
There may even be a tracking system that you need to log into to receive your assignments. In either case, you will have to posses some time planning and scheduling techniques in order to keep track and stay of top of service issues that are assigned to you.
Scheduling Time Accordingly
Over time, you will realize how long it takes to complete a certain job. To help you in planning your time, you should start off keeping track of the time it takes you to perform a task in some kind of log book. Later, it may come in handy if your supervisor were to ask you how long it would take to do something for a project quote or they may be reviewing your work orders to see if you are wasting the time of the company.
Also, if you are assigned several tasks you can schedule your time to best of your ability if you know approximately how long the task should take. If you notice that you are “overbooked” so to speak, your supervisor would appreciate knowing why you won’t be able to get every job done in the allotted amount of time.
