Contrary to what you may believe, being a computer technician is not an easy job. There are always
problems that need to be fixed, there is always a deadline, and customers want their problems solved yesterday.
With all of these added elements to trying to solve or repair an issue, the job can become very stressful at times.
I list this trait first since it can have an affect on many of the other traits. Knowing when to
just take a moment, step-back, and relax is very important; without being able to do this may result in the
possibility of taking a small issue and turning it into a major situation. Furthermore, knowing how to cope
with job related stress will help you mentally and physically stay focused on your job and your life.
Some ways that you can deal with stress may include:
- Take a short walk. If things get to be too much when you are trying to focus on a problem, just take a short break. Go for a little walk and clear your head.
- Reschedule. If you are working on a major problem and are not finding the answer, there really is nothing wrong with rescheduling the appointment for after lunch or the next morning. You just need to let it go and in most cases when you come back… the answer will be apparent.
- Have a hobby that is not related to work. We are in the computer industry, having a computer at home that you use for your hobby and relax time is not a good thing. You need something that is completely different to let you mind rest and recharge.
- Plan an event. Nothing relaxes me more than knowing that vacation is just a couple of weeks away, and I can always get through the week better if I know I am doing something fun on the weekend.
- Know how your body changes when you are stressed. Stress can have a major effect on your physical and mental well being. You need to know how your body reacts to stress, and know when to implement your stress relievers.
